What Is Redwood Fencing?

Redwood fencing is a premium wood fence option made from naturally rot- and insect-resistant California redwood fencing boards, available in picket, privacy, and split-rail styles. Its natural tannins help resist decay without chemical treatment, while its dimensional stability minimizes warping in changing weather. Redwood can weather to a soft gray over time or be stained to preserve its rich red-brown color.

Available redwood fence styles include:

Redwood Picket Fence

A redwood picket fence features an open design with pointed or flat-top pickets, making it ideal for front yards, gardens, and decorative borders. Redwood naturally resists warping better than pressure-treated pine and looks beautiful stained or sealed to maintain its natural color.

Redwood Privacy Fence

Redwood privacy fences are available in board-on-board and tight-board styles, typically 6–8 feet tall. Because redwood is more dimensionally stable than pine, it helps reduce gaps caused by shrinking and warping.

Other Redwood Fence Styles

Split-rail fencing offers a rustic look for property boundaries, while post-and-board fencing creates a clean, modern appearance. Champion Fence can also create custom builds with redwood fencing materials to fit unique property layouts and non-standard fence heights.

Key Benefits of Premium Redwood Fencing

A premium redwood fence delivers lasting beauty, durability, and value for your home.

Redwood’s natural tannins and oils help resist decay and insect damage without the chemical treatments required for many other softwoods.

Properly sealed redwood fencing can last 20–30+ years, making it a durable investment for changing climates.

Redwood’s dimensional stability helps reduce warping, cracking, and sagging, keeping your fence straighter over time.

Redwood accepts stains and sealers evenly, making it easy to preserve or customize its natural color.

Redwood’s rich, natural appearance adds warmth and character that enhances your home’s overall appearance.

Champion Fence is my go to fence company. Hands down the best customer service. I dealt with Alex on changes after I was quoted and he was professional, courteous, respectful, and understanding. Nelson and Johnny were the crew that performed the installation. Wow! A very hot and humid day and they stayed at it the entire time. The workmanship, quality, and their performance would be hard to beat. Nelson was the crew leader he was very respectful and thoughtful which I appreciated. He kept me informed the entire time, made sure I was in agreement with the positioning and walked the entire job when he was done to make sure I was totally satisfied.

FAQs

How long does a redwood fence last?

With proper installation and periodic sealing, a redwood fence can last 20–30+ years or more.

Pricing depends on fence style, height, linear footage, and redwood grade. Contact Champion Fence for a free, itemized quote.

Sealing isn’t required, but we recommend it to preserve the wood’s color and extend its lifespan. Most finishes are reapplied every 2–3 years. You’ll typically need to wait 24–48 hours for the stain to dry before exposing the fence to moisture.

Redwood typically costs more upfront than cedar but offers excellent durability, stability, and long-term value.

When comparing wood vs. vinyl fencing, redwood offers the natural beauty of real wood, while vinyl requires less maintenance but can’t get stained or refinished.

Redwood offers greater dimensional stability and a richer natural appearance, while cedar provides a lower-cost alternative with good durability. The best choice depends on your budget and maintenance preferences.
